July 2018: Paris Letters by Janice MacLeod
I read this book shortly after it came out a few years ago. After being enchanted by Janice MacLeod's work on Etsy and following her hilarious and inspiring blog about a watercolorist's life in Paris, I couldn't wait to read her book.
This book is my kind of beach read. It's fun, humorous, and inspiring - it might even give you wanderlust. MacLeod has a way of making unusual connections that cut straight through the bull and leave you giggling - like the wisdom she finds while sorting through her underwear drawer.
In a nutshell, Janice finds herself burnt out by West Coast corporate life and decides to make a change. She downsizes, simplifies, saves up, and heads to Paris with her watercolor set.
This is a story about choosing your own path, finding love, and budding entrepreneurship - and it all unfolds in Paris. I'm not quite as moony about Paris as some, but having lived there with my watercolor set, this delighted even this semi-jaded pseudo-ex-Parisian.
