This palette is comprised of 11 Full Pans and 2 Half-Pans of color enclosed in a bijoux box, and accompanied by a hand-painted color chart. (Pans are NOT wrapped or magnetized.)
This palette is designed around the concept of color exploration and building a consistent painting practice. Each pigment has been carefully selected for a corresponding month, labeled on the color chart.
The idea is that you will explore one color per month, creating daily or weekly monochrome paintings, using just the one pigment to explore different subjects. In this way, you will become intimately acquainted with each color and its behavior. By spending a full month with each color, you will feel the contrast in switching colors all the more intensely.
I have thrown some challenges and real variety into this palette, which I hope you will find illuminating and fun.
If you are wondering about the two Half-Pans of Nickel Azo Yellow, the answer is that we haven't produced Half-Pans of that color yet, but I just had to include it in this collection.
This palette and the exercise/challenge it is designed to facilitate is not meant to be in place of the other painting you are doing (though you can use it that way if you wish). It is more intended as a creative catalyst.
If you would like to use the same sketchbook for these exercises throughout the year, I recommend Hahnemüle Sketchbooks, which we carry. If you intend to paint daily-ish you can use one sketchbook per month/color, which will give you much to look over at year's end.
