This palette includes a special color that we only release in this palette: English Black Earth. It is a natural earth pigment from a now-closed mine in England. It is a lovely oft earth black with a fine texture to it.
New this year is Manganese Ferrite Black, which is the darkest black we have ever offered. Due to its pigment particle shape, it consumes light waves making it appear intensely dark.
This palette is comprised of 13 magnetized Half-Pans of color enclosed in a travel tin, and accompanied by a hand-painted color chart.
This is a collection of all of our Black and darkest Grey colors, including new and limited edition colors. While this might look like a fairly one-dimensional palette, nothing could be farther from reality. Each of these colors has subtle variations in hue - some are warm, some are cool, and others are wonderfully balanced neutrals. Each of these pigments also has unique and widely varied handling characteristics, with some spreading into spectacular granulation (Chromite & Magnetite), some expressing interesting color variegation (Chromite & Grey Ochre), some being buttery and smooth (Lamp Black), others flocculating (Magnetite), and still others dispersing almost violently (Vine Charcoal). Each of these colors also have different tinting strength with Lamp Black and Soot being the most intense. You will see for yourself that each of these colors has their own distinct personality.
Many of these colors are compatible with dip pens, but some will work better than others. Vine Charcoal can be particularly difficult to control as is has an intense dispersing characteristic.
