The Waterhose Set
Greenleaf & Blueberry Artisanal Handmade Watercolors
Okay, this palette definitely has a story...
When we were little girls, my sister was gifted with the most beautiful stuffed rabbit. We were standing in the bathroom brushing our teeth together and I asked her what she was going to name it (imagining options such as Cottontail, Long Ears, or Fluffy - sweet names befitting of a lovely little bunny). Her reply was immediate, declarative, and final: Waterhose. I was shocked, concerned even. I pleaded with her to reconsider. But her decision was made, and that little stuffed rabbit has been, will always be, and really could only ever have been Waterhose.
I’ve learned a lot about creativity from my sister - from blue cats with green tails, stuffed toys named Waterhose and Tree Sweetie Pie, and the unorthodox approach to dress-up involving sheer quantity of garments and makeup in all the wrong places - you better believe this kid colored outside the lines with wild abandon. And the thing is, she showed me that life is better that way - when you follow your bliss, act on intuition, get a wild hair.
It’s not just about being in touch with your imagination - it’s creativity on a reflexive level, unhindered by convention.
I arranged a color palette with this spirit in mind. As an artist, it is surprisingly easy to get boxed in by convention, or even your own constructs of the way things “should be”. The colors in this palette are unusual, each representing a different type of pigment and behavioral characteristics. There are minerals, earths, ochre, metallics, and synthetics with a range in opacities, tinting strengths, particle sizes, rewetability, etc.
Colors and palettes outside your norms can push you in new creative directions and reignite your sense of artistic play.
And when it came time to name this palette, with my sister’s blessing, I knew it could only be called Waterhose.
That worn and loved old rabbit has long been a symbol of bucking convention and wild creativity. So just in case you forget to be playful, I included a reminder for you on the reverse of the color chart.alette is comprised of 10 magnetized Half-Pans of color enclosed in a travel tin, and accompanied by a hand-painted color chart.
